1.     Customs and Excise Manager – Africa

About the role

This role Provides proactive, high quality specialist global trade & excise governance leadership to ensure the effective management of Diageo’s global trade affairs within the Africa Region. The role applies and executes Global CoE strategies and policies to manage and mitigate key risks.

Your Role

  • Participate in developing and executing strategies, policies, standards, guidelines for global trade management and drive adoption of, and adherence to, policies and standards.
  • Provide specialist support on regional global trade issues and support the business by reviewing the implications of business-initiated projects to Diageo’s operational structure and value chain
  • Participate in global trade projects to deliver shareholder value/manage potential exposures.
  • Proactively support the delivery of the Global Trade CoE objectives aiming to standardise and simplify processes and procedures.
  • Keep up to date with customs and excise regulatory changes and best practice; identify risks and opportunities and recommend actions.

Experience Required

  • Experience of leadership within a Global Trade/Supply function in a global multinational
  • Experience of providing domestic and cross border technical advice
  • Effective project management and implementation skills
  • Good team working and communication skills across diverse cultures

Job Description :

EABL is a leading drinks company in Eastern Africa with a wide portfolio of products in various categories of beer, spirits, malt, glass and other non-alcoholic drinks. EABL is quoted in all the 3 East African stock exchanges and has operations in Eastern Africa with a turnover of over £553m. It is the largest business unit in Diageo Africa, and directly operates 5 breweries, 2 spirits plants as well as a barley & malting facility. EABL operates within a multicultural, multinational, multicurrency environment.

Key Interactions:

  • Finance Business partners and operational teams (including FD and FC) together with LD, CRD and MD: Develop and maintain a strong working relationship keeping up to date with business priorities and developments, and acting as a trusted business advisor in order to challenge and support the markets in improving overall tax management. Keeps the business up to date with the implications of any tax/regulatory changes and advises in a timely manner on best course of action by the business to ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations while also factoring the business strategies.
  • Tax Compliance, Reporting teams – Collaborate with the relevant tax Centre of Excellence team to provide high quality, timely tax activities and outcomes to the business
  • Owner of the Tax Risk Matrix for the business
  • All Kenyan tax authorities, departments and other senior government tax authorities including KEBS – hold strong relationships with all tax bodies and proactively engages them on speedy resolution of any tax audits or tax enquiries
  • Liaise as appropriate with the teams responsible for payroll taxes and for customs & excise taxes in resolution of any audits/assessments relating to these taxes
  • Governance & Change – Support delivery of changes/improvements relating to tax
  • External Advisors – Support the relationship with external tax advisors and hold them to account for the delivery of timely, cost effective and value adding tax advice

Humanitarian Learning and Knowledge Management Officer – Deadline: 22/07/2021

The Learning and Knowledge Management Officer supports the application of learning within Disaster Management (DM) to improve performance in humanitarian programmes. This is achieved through support to systems, structures and environments to capture, store and share knowledge, and apply learning to practice. Responsibilities of the role include: conducting learning processes and advocating for the incorporation of outcomes into WV’s humanitarian strategies, policies, and decisions; advising responses on and implementing knowledge and information management systems; leading analysis and development of humanitarian learning trend reports and info sheets; coordinating and continuously improving knowledge and learning products; coordinating and conducting collaboration spaces such as webinars and MS Teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Coordinate Global Centre supported DM learning processes for Cat III and sustained humanitarian responses, and advise on other thematic or programme approach learning processes as requested.
  • Advise Cat III and sustained humanitarian responses on and implement knowledge management and information management systems immediately after declaration and/or as requested.
  • Advise on the development and continuous improvement of global DM knowledge, information and learning products, platforms and standards.
  • Lead analysis for and development of learning trend products and support dissemination.
  • Coordinate select knowledge sharing events and platforms for the DM Network, including webinars, events, and Centre of Competence (CoC) initiatives (particularly for the Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) CoC).

About the role

We currently seek to recruit a Factory Crew Lead. Please note that the role will be based in Kinanie, Athi River Machakos County

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow weekly shift plans and daily set production schedules to execute all assigned tasks as per the work instructions.
  • Performing Autonomous Maintenance tasks on the assigned equipment. These are industrial filling machines, greenhouses, motors, chain-belts, hoppers.
  • Attend scrum meetings and other sessions called by the line manager to discuss and resolve work challenges.
  • Lead scrum meetings in your sections.
  • Proactively propose to your supervisor possible solutions to challenges affecting productivity, quality, health & safety in your work area.
  • Lead workmen at your section to resolve agreed issues.
  • Actively support and be involved in maintenance activities related to equipment in your assigned factory section.
  • Meet biweekly with your line manager to review and set expectations for your performance.
  • Meet biweekly with your reports to review and set expectations for their performance.
  • Report your section’s performance against set production schedules to your supervisor on a daily basis on the established platforms.
  • Training new or existing operators on equipment operations and execution of daily tasks.
  • Work with other section supervisors to ensure that processes run in sync as per the production schedule.
  • Lead your teammates in your section to execute daily production schedules.
  • Attend and actively participate all team meetings.
  • Maintain effective working relationships through treating your colleagues with respect.
  • Resolved misunderstandings and report unresolved issues with suggestions to your Supervisor or talent partner.
  • Have cordial interactions with the community as you do your work.
  • Report any complaints or concerns raised by existing customers or any other member of the community.
  • Adhere to set shift plans and work orders.

  • Experience in leading line staff/factory staff (2 years)
  • At least 2 years’ experience in operation of factory machinery with motors and hydraulic systems
  • Diploma or degree in technical field or biological science related discipline
