The Collaborative Centre for Gender and Development is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the position of a Program Officer for child protection and care. The candidate will be reporting to the Executive Director.

Tasks and Responsibilities

The Program Officer shall be responsible for advocacy initiatives on reducing the gender disparity on unpaid care work, child care and child protection matters in all CCGD programs. S/he shall also take charge of coordination of CCGD Child Care initiatives including:

  1. Coordinating partner engagement and relations – in particular Uthabiti and University of Nairobi Women Economic Empowerment Hub
    1. Overseeing utilization of relevant project funds
    2. Reporting as per CCGD and partner/donor requirements
    3. Overseeing management of childcare centers supported by CCGD including performance of staff
    4. Overseeing partnership parents and traders’ associations
    5. Be responsible for the well-being of the children under care in CCGD supported centers including monitoring that the facilities are child friendly in an age-appropriate manner and safe
    6. Participating in resource mobilization for care work
    7. Liaising with national and county governments on matters childcare and child protection and leading policy advocacy on the same
    8. In coordination with the M & E PO – overseeing research and data collection activities
  2. On Child Protection: He/She Shall provide professional technical, operational and administrative assistance on CCGD programs on matters child protection
    1. Manage child referrals: to receive information from staff, volunteers, children or parents and care givers who have child protection concerns and record it; assess the information promptly and to ensure that the referral is made and confirmed in writing
    2. Ensure CCGD supported facilities observe child protection requirements
    3. Networking with child centered organizations as well as with children’s department and other government agencies charged with catering for children
    4. To advise about appropriate training for staff and volunteers based on CCGD training requirements and Child Care and Child Protection training opportunities in particular.


The right candidate should:

  1. Have a university degree in sociology or related disciplines and preferably additional training in childcare/protection
  2. At least 3 years’ experience in the areas of child care/Protection
  3. Knowledge of legal framework for children/child protection and related child care/protection networks
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and work with Police and Children’s Social Care Services/Department
  5. Demonstrate awareness of inter-agency child protection procedures.
  6. Show good knowledge of child protection policies and procedures
  7. Demonstrate understanding of – behavior that is harmful to children including child abuse
  8. Be very conversant with gender issues and in particular to with sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV)
  9. Demonstrate knowledge of issues on other aspects of care work and in particular   unpaid care work.

Responsibilities Duties and responsibilities

In addition to the above, the senior marketing officer will be responsible for:

  1. Identifying target markets and developing strategies to communicate with them;
    Managing all marketing for the corporation and activities within the marketing department;
  2. Developing the marketing strategy for the corporation in line with the corporation’s objectives;
  3. Coordinating marketing campaigns;
  4. Developing and overseeing the utilization of the marketing budget;
  5. Creation and publication of all marketing material in line with marketing plans;
  6. Monitoring customer needs;
  7. Managing, training and motivating sales and marketing staff to drive revenue growth;
  8. Monitoring and analyzing marketing trends;
  9. Developing and managing efficient distribution networks for sales;
  10. Carrying out market research
  11. Any other duty as may be assigned by a competent authority
